This could be an interesting theory. In Norse mythology Freya had a son named Baldur (who if anyone dosen't know is the Norse god of light) but he was also the god of purity pocessing a pure soul just like Bell. My theory (in the anime) goes is that Baldur (also died in Norse mythology) was killed and Freya decided to reincarnate him into a random human body (Bell Cranel) and the only thing she kept the same was Baldur's soul in Bells body, however Freya maybe did not know which human had the soul of her dead son so when she saw Bell and his pure white soul she immediately knew it was her son and has been watching over him and his training and improvement to make sure her "new son" doesn't suffer the same fate as Baldur her "old son".

Freya interest in Bell is sexual and she is infatuated with him, all so she did not care if he died as she would just follow his soul and claim it then.

If Freya had an adopted son she would had kept its soul instead of letting it reincarnate. Moreover, as Kevhunt said Freya's interest is sexual, not that of a mother. Freya herself stated her interest was due to Bell's soul color. And no, it wasn't because she recognized but because it was the first time she saw that color, something she stated herself.

Trying to defend such an idea means ignoring several things, of which some are Freya's own behavior and statements.
