Bete and Tiona are perfectly able to fight in the Deep Floors using knives despite those floors being full of big monsters. Bell is gonna continue using knives and that is not gonna change.

<p>Actually Betes weapons, also the Dual Rolan, are Dual short swords so not reall knives. Tiones weapons are Kukri knives that as long as shortswords so they arent comparable to the Hestia knive that is much much shorter than both of these weapons. Bell still will use that so we cant change it. </p>

<p>If you are referring to very short swords that are only a little longer than khukris, sure there is a difference compared to the Hestia Knife, but not much, seven or eight inches for the Hestia Knife versus ten to eleven for the average Khukri or twelve of a very short sword. That few inches make little practical difference in reality. While there might be an argument for the need of a longer weapon in a series if it was more grounded a very short sword of twelve inches isn't much more practical than a belt knife like the one Bell uses.  </p><p>The difference would be especially minimal in terms of reach or penetration against some of the truly massive monster that roam Danmachi. The animal on earth with the thickest skin of up to 14 inches (35cm). None of the examples above would make it passed the hide, much less the blubber and muscle to reach something important.  </p><p>Short version is that it is pointless to claim this or that weapon is not good enough when it would take a anti-material rifle to get the penetration actually needed to kill something the size of whale. </p><p>The only reason some people say large knives like khukris or bowies are comparable to short swords is because of the grey area between long daggers and very short swords as well as not understanding that even if you take a twelve inch short sword or a massive similar khukri the differences are impossible to miss in person. Aand to be fair that grey area exists from short sword to one handed swords and one handed to two handed. I'm of the opinion that a twelve or even fourteen inch dagger or large knife is not as sword under any circumstance because they handle and are balances so differently. </p>

As of the wiki the short swords length are between 40 - 80 cm and Kukri knives are between 35- 57cm. From the looks of the Hestia knive the length of it would be probably be 20- 30 cm.  </p><p>I am not a medieval weapons expert but i think more range is always welcome especially in danmachi. Bell will and should stay with his knive based fight style because he doesnt really have any experience with other weapons. Still thank you for the clarification. </p><p>This is a little bit off topic i think but we know that Takes Familia was trained by him in pretty much anything. So why doesnt he train Bell in using his knive right or better to say teach him how to fight properly with them. I think Take would be able to teach Bell a lot especially because he is a god of martial arts and Bell is shown to be a really fast learner so he would absorb Takes teachings and would train them like he did with Aiz training tips. </p>

<p>This is a problem I have with wikipedia (I'm assuming that is what you used), the information is notoriously unreliable on subjects that have less in the way of well known scholars or are heavily effected by modern culture lack of actual knowledge on subjects. The sources for khukris was pretty poor and doesn't do much to back up the information presented and keep in mind some of those extremes of larger size or smaller size are not reflective of what was common or practical. </p><p>Yes short sword does apply to many different types but for the most part they are going to be significantly longer than 40 cm. The concept that is commonly understood by people for short swords, at least in the European case, wasn't something that existed much in history because they didn't have much of a use that wasn't better done by a longer sword or a dagger in the case of armored grappling or something. </p><p>To be fair yes Japan and China did have actual very short swords that were just around 18 inches and a bit shorter but real information regarding the use of those is hard to come by. </p> <div class="quote"><i>I am not a medieval weapons expert but i think more range is always welcome especially in danmachi. <p>Sure if the series bothered to follow any logic in regard to weapons, but if that was the case there wouldn't be things like Urga or knife specialists. Longer reach is almost never a bad thing, sparring against someone with a long sword using a arming sword or god forbid a short sword is a pain in the ass. A bit of clarification, I don't use real sword or metal sparring swords though I do have a couple antiques I use as examples, I make, weight, and balance rigid padded ones to reflect whatever sword I have in mind at the time. </p><p>Well I have to go finish getting read for going hunting for a week, assuming the wild fires don't change my plans, so I probably won't be responding for awhile. </p>

<p>if bell has used a knife so far it probably remains so. </p><p>I do not like it. basically the sword, the spear, the ax good weapons for a warrior. tiona and Bete come from warrior species. stronger than humans. more developed physical skills. resistant muscular bodies.... you can't compare a child to an Amazon or a werewolf... if it is to be logical and the author takes it as a story without too much protection. </p><p>Bell had long been taken by Apollo. then Freya picked him up from him. </p><p>that was the logic. </p><p>just like then. and now the author will throw an impossible action from which the hestia of the family will win in front of Freya. </p><p>and Bell's promotion is not done. God forbid they attract attention. </p><p>seriously? someone who has done 4 levels in 6 months does not attract attention? others do his level in many years. it's a bad excuse </p>
