Like the topic said, if Loki had to level up one of them which do you think she would choose?
I honestly think that Gareth might be the one that she levels up to level 7. From a stats and abilities point of view he might be the best choice if Loki had to level one of them up.
His strength and endurance are almost maxed out and his skills only increase those stats even further. He seems pretty solid with his attack and defense.
@Gold Shadows You make a good point and I do not expect them to have all S ranked stats but I would expected them all to have two S ranked stats minimum that play to their strengths. However, only Gareth does.
When I would "choose" to lvl up from Executives of the Loki Familia, it would be Gareth. Gareth is the best choice because he is the tank of tanks in the Loki Familia, he as well had the best oppertunity o lvl up and that his fight against the Bull Type Demi Spirit. Yes Gareth had support from Tiona and Tione but he did the most overall so he should have gained enough High quality Exellia to lvl up, especially after someone consideres that he as should have that as well against the Demi Spirit they fought on floor 59.
Like JustSomeDude said, everyone has a race limit in their stats. Even if Finn and Riveria wanted to they would be unable to rise their stats too much compared to their current ones.
In fact, in SO6 their growth is described to be pretty low even though they were also part of the fiht against the Demi Spirit.
Ais is also a perfect example of it as even with all her effort she was no longer able to have a significant grow, even after her fight with Udaeus.
And Gareth is not a frontline fighter but the one in charge of the rearguard and, in fact, because of this he doesn't get too many chances to use his power, in other words, grow too much his stats.
Why would Gareth be part of the rearguard? That makes no sense whatsoever
If I had to guess, it's probably because there is no point in him being in the frontlines most of the time. In most cases, Loki familia won't be pushed to their limits. Letting the less experienced members be on the frontlines helps facilitate their growth.
It was said in SO4 that he was and due to it he was unable to usually show his power.
I would say it was rather just the author's decision. If it was the case then Ais and the rest wouldn't participate as much to let the lower members fight.
If I recall Gareth was only part of the rearguard to let the younger members gain experience but when it came to battles where he didn't have to carry them he handles the front. SO4, SO7, SO12 and AR have all shown Gareth always being the frontline for a majority of the time if not all of it.. The author also compared Zard and Gareth when he said Zard held the same position as Gareth when he was in Zeus Familia Since Zard was described to be a vanguard so that means Gareth's position is normally the frontline.
The position of Vanguard sounds like one that definitely fits him. As part of a front line force he can attack and keep the enemy occupied which can create an opening that his allies can use to attack the enemy.
I cannot really imagine him in the battle position of rearguard unless they are training lower level members in the dungeon. But if the threat is too great for the lower level members to handle then he is someone that Loki will definitely want on the front lines to provide them some breathing room.
Like I already said, this is not something I came up with. SO4 states he is always in the rearguard. You can check it out yourself if you don't believe it.
Of course he is gonna be in the frontlines when it is needed but that is just in major events, that means only very few times. In their expeditions, which have been their only way of gaining excelia for the past few years prior to the start of the story, he has been in the rearguard.
Anyway, that doesn't matter. The reason Gareth was able to reach S in two stats was not due to his position but because of his limit imposed by his race.
Ais was the perfect example of it as it was mentioned she hit a wall and was unable to actually continue growing in both SO 1 and 9 when she was Level 5 and 1 respectively.
Personally i think you level up Riveria.
Finn is most useful for his mind/strategy which a lvl bump wouldnt help with
Gareth while being very useful and a good choice is a melee and limited to what he can tank/attack/reach
Riveria is the mage... you always lvl the mage. She has AoE and Single target magic, Healing, Defense Magic, has a much larger range to use all these etc
