During recent discussions with fans of the series, the topic of when the deep floors (floors 37+) where discovered came up. Apparently early SO states that these floors were only explored for the first time about 100 years ago.

Does anyone here remember this statement? If so, what volume (if possible, around what page) of SO is this mentioned in?
