Alfia (アルフィア) was an executive of the Hera Familia and is a character in DanMachi ~Memoria Freese~ that appears in the Astraea Record event.
Appearance[]
Alfia was a fair-skinned woman with silver hair. She had heterochromia, with her right eye being green while her left was grey.
She dressed in a dark goth-like dress that spanned all the way down to her feet. Around her neck, she had a necklace with a green gemstone decorated. She also wore dark, semi-transparent gloves.
Personality[]
Alfia was a collected woman, almost always portraying a calm expression. Despite her usual composed attitude, she could be driven to aggression if provoked. She was an extremely insightful person as she noticed Ais' true nature shortly after seeing her for the first time.
She seemed to have a certain bond with her sister, visiting a church because it was a place her sister was fond of and holding a certain contempt that she herself had lived so long with her illness in comparison to her sister while she died.
A result of the wide gap in combat aptitude between them, Alfia believed she "stole" her sister's talent while they were in their mother's womb and considered it to be her "sin." Because of it, she cursed her own abilities and hated them more than anything. Her disgust was such that she developed an enchantment with the peculiarity of greatly reducing the power of the rest of her magic.
Although she was aware of her sister's son, she let her sister give him to Zeus to take care of, claiming that she had no right to take care of him because she chose her own interests over him. Nevertheless, she still cared a great deal for him, wishing that by strengthening Orario she could create a world in which it was not necessary for him to wield a weapon. In her final moments, she willingly fell several floors to the Deep Floors of the dungeon, to be consumed by flames and become ashes like her sister.
Alfia had a deep regret about being defeated by the One Eyed Black Dragon. Having witnessed the dragon's power for herself, she developed a serious concern for the future battle against it. Determined to increase Orario's power, her resolve was shown to be monumental, willing to unleash chaos, death, and despair on Orario in order to force them to strengthen themselves in preparation for said battle.
At the same time, she proved to be a person of unwavering determination, maintaining her act as a villain even when severely weakened and at death's door. In her final clash against the Astraea Familia, she said that the only way to defeat her was to be a hero, demonstrating that she saw herself as a test for heroes. Like Zald, Alfia had a sense of honor, as shown when she gave up after being defeated by the Astraea Familia and commended them for doing so, along with acknowledging justice. Things like fame didn't matter to her, dying satisfied just knowing she had accomplished her goal.
Despite her usually peaceful expression and demeanor, the truth is that Alfia was a selfish, neurotic and violent woman. She hated noise and could be extremely controlling. A lover of silence by nature, she used to get upset if someone made too much noise for her liking, seeking to silence the source of the scandal. She also hated being called "old", ordering Kaguya to retract when she referred to her as one, or in any way that might suggest she was older than she actually was, even being one of her motivations to not see her sister's son that she didn't want to be called "aunt". She maintained this character both in and out of battle. In both cases she did not care if her target was a child or someone that she was fond of, she did not regulate the seriousness of her punishment, showing how extremist she could be.
In relation to her dislike of noise, Alfia developed a sort of idiosyncrasy regarding the word as she referred to multiple things that bothered her as "noise", regardless of whether they actually were. She applied said use of the word to herself as well, referring to her abilities as "her noise". Her aberration ended up being strong enough to sway her falna with both the name and the chant of her nullifying magic, Silentium Eden, alluding to her preference for silence.
She reigned with a hand of steel since she did not allow anyone to oppose her or what she said, and did what she wanted without consulting anyone else. Likewise, she was very harsh in her teaching methods, deciding to expose her students to risky situations so that they would know the feeling of being on the verge of death even if they were children. Besides that, she was also a very clumsy person.
Alfia had the belief that, regardless of age, people aged in a certain way as time went by due to the regrets that they accumulated throughout their lives. For this reason, she believed that one should stick to their beliefs and values in order to live without regretting anything. While she detested being called old, she acknowledged that she was a quite old person by this criteria of hers, and noted that she had multiple regrets.
Ironically, although she shared several traits with her, Alfia hated her Goddess, Hera, of whom she spoke badly and with annoyance every time she mentioned her. She also hated perverted acts. She always punished Zeus' constant attempts to touch her either by herself attacking him with her magic or by telling Hera about it, causing her to feel a particular dislike towards the elder God. However, she recognized that he could be a good God too. She hated her nephew's father, likely due to his attitude and relationship with Meteria. She expressed disgust and anger whenever she spoke of him, loathing him to the point of commenting that she wanted to gouge her nephew's eyes, as they are the only physical trait he inherited from him.
Alfia was on good terms with Zald. They came to know each other very well due to their familias' long relation and shared an inseparable bond. Their relationship was kind of like an uncle and niece, with Alfia having relied on him ever since the downfall of their familias and spending her remaining days after the event along with Zald.
History[]
Alfia was born with an incurable disease, which prevented her from fighting for long periods of time. 15 years ago, she dealt the final blow to Leviathan using Genos Angelus. After that, her condition was said to have worsened. Some time later, she and the rest of the Zeus and Hera Familias were easily defeated by the One Eyed Black Dragon.
Following the annihilation of both familias she spent most of the rest of her days living with Zald who took care of her and also helped the school district acting as a gatekeeper of a certain "barrier". She continued on with said lifestyle until Erebus came to visit them and ask for their help in his plan to serve as a stepping stone for Orario in order to strengthen them for the sake of the world. Feeling the end of their fleeting lives near, and wishing to make something out them, they agreed.
As decided upon the agreement, she served as one of Evilus' main forces to antagonize the Labyrinth City prior to and during the events of the Great Feud. She eventually died as a villain after she purposely fell to the fiery bottom of a deep pit all the way to the Deep Floors once she was defeated by the Astraea Familia.
Abilities[]
Monstrous Talent: Alfia was mentioned to be extremely talented, able to easily overpower both Riveria and Gareth, both of whom were high Level 5 at the time. Despite being a mage, she was part of the vanguard, being able to fight with both magic and melee, excelling with a grace and mastery far above that of a magic swordman; and was considered to be unorthodox even within the Hera Familia.
She overcame the gap between levels, having a power above Level 7. Her might was so great that she would have had a chance of defeating the captain of the Hera Familia, who was Level 9.[1] Alfia's abilities were such a cheat that, if the captains of the Zeus and Hera Familias were the same level as her, she would have been guaranteed to win.[2]
In addition to that, she would have been able to face a Juggernaut from the 70th Floor and, in case the monster didn't defeat her in the first 20 seconds of the fight, she would have been the winner.[3] According to Riveria, Alfia would've been able to surpass Level 7 if it wasn't for her incurable illness.
Along with Zald, they were the most powerful characters introduced in the entire franchise so far at the time of their debut,[4] after Albert.[5]
Immense Physical Prowess: As a Level 7, Alfia's physical abilities were all immeasurably superior to those of a normal person. In terms of raw physical prowess, her abilities were also exponentially superior to those of any Level 6 or below.
Immense Strength: Alfia was extremely strong. She easily caught the attack of a Level 3 Kaguya close to leveling up with her katana using only two fingers. While imitating Zald's swordsmanship, she managed to blow away a high Level 5 Gareth and the Astraea Familia, even destroying the shield Gareth used to protect them.
Extreme Speed, Agility, and Reflexes: According to the author, Alfia's response speed would had been faster than the speed of a Juggernaut born on the 70th Floor.[6] Even with her physical prowess reduced to that of a Level 5 or Level 4 at most, she was so fast that the entire Astraea Familia, including a high Level 3 Alise strengthened by Agaris Alvesynth and Lubrude Bequia, was unable to stop her as she recited the super long chant of Genos Angelus.
Immense Durability: Even with her body ravaged by her illness and her physical prowess reduced to that of a Level 5 or Level 4 at most, Alfia survived being hit by an explosion from the Agaris Alvesynth of a high Level 3 Alise strengthened by Lubrude Bequia and the Luminous Wind of a high Level 3 Ryuu, although she was mortally wounded by their combined attack.
Extreme Endurance, Stamina, and Mind: Alfia had immeasurable reserves of stamina and pain tolerance that allowed her to fight for considerable periods of time and easily overwhelm first-class adventurers even with her genetic illness. She could also keep Silentium Eden active at all times even though it consumed a large amount of mind. However, if she fought for long periods of time her condition began to severely weaken her. This forced her to take a long rest after a battle before she could fight effectively again due to her condition, remaining inactive for several days between her first and second appearance in the Great Feud.
In her final battle against the Astraea Familia she fought against the adventurers for a few hours before her illness began to affect her to a significant degree. Even after being severely weakened, her combat ability reduced to that of a Level 5 or Level 4 at most, and vomiting an inconceivable amount of blood, Alfia continued to fight and was able to face all of her opponents at the same time. Later, her body was burned and fully covered in wounds, including a fatal one, from Alise and Ryuu's final attack. Additionally, it made her vomit much more blood. However, she still managed to get up and despite being in an extremely fragile state and looking like she was going to collapse at any moment she could give them a few words and walk a certain distance before letting herself fall to her death.
Copying: Alfia was able to copy movements she saw once but was unable to copy physical attributes. She was shown using Zald's swordsmanship.
Enhanced Senses: After acquiring her falna, Alfia's senses became much better than those of a normal person. Her senses further improved with each subsequent rank up.
Concurrent Chanting (並行詠唱): A high level technique involving casting magic while fighting or moving around. Its difficulty is likened to dealing with a bomb with both hands while fighting due to the chance of failing a chant or not being able to control their own magic power.
Limit Off (
Magic[]
Satanas Verion (サタナス・ヴェーリオン): Satanas Verion is a super short chant magic that hit enemies with blocks of sound. Despite its rather simple nature it was extremely powerful and deadly. A single direct hit was easily able to deal with a whole group of Ganesha Familia members as well as a high Level 5 Gareth, having such power that Ryuu and her comrades were also able to sense the attacks even from the other side of Orario in the case of the latter. The shockwaves produced by the attacks alone could easily defeat upper class adventurers.
Thanks to its super short chant it could be used quickly and even Welf's Will-o-Wisp would have been unable to interrupt it.[7] It possessed a wide range of effect such that it managed to hit the entire Astraea Familia without even leaving them a chance to escape. The magic severely disturbed the senses of those struck by it. When she was struck by a shockwave, Lyra ended up bleeding from her nose, ears and eyes, her vision became blurry and her sense of balance was shattered. Since they were only sound it was impossible to see the attacks.
The magic power that remained after using it could also be made to explode with the Spell Key Lugio (
Alfia became capable of using a greater extent of this magic's power after turning off Silentium Eden. Although her dress still greatly reduced its offensive capability, preventing her from using it at its full potential, doing so greatly increased its power. Even though her target was the Astraea Familia and not the monster, the shockwaves produced by Satanas Verion significantly injured Delphyne, a Level 6 or 7 monster with a great regenerative ability and whose resilience prevented a pair of high Level 5s Riveria and Gareth from inflicting any damage to it at all, and made it scream in pain. Its aftereffects also managed to reach Orario itself all the way from the 18th Floor, as Asfi could feel slight tremors from the dungeon that came from Alfia's blast.
Silentium Eden (
Alfia used to raise her arm when nullifying an attack to fool her opponents and give the impression that it was a magical barrier. Despite its ability to nullify external magic attacks, the true nature of her magic laid in its ability to greatly diminish the power of her own magic. Alfia described it as that it wasn't an "armor" but rather a "seal" to keep her own "noise" within herself.
Genos Angelus (ジェノス・アンジェラス): Unlike her other two magic, Genos Angelus had a super long chant and was powerful enough that Gareth mentioned it could destroy the entire 18th Floor. It caused a gigantic silver-grey bell to manifest above Alfia's head and had an effect range of over 100 meters. Its destructive potential was such that it was even capable of killing the Leviathan. However, its usage carried a serious disadvantage, since it worsened Alfia's health condition, having seriously aggravated after its use against the legendary sea monster.
Skills[]
Gif Blessing (
Upon activation it also caused Alfia's stats, stamina, and mind to continuously decrease semi-permanently. The author described it as that it caused a 5% decrease in her health, mind, and all her abilities "every turn". As time passed it weakened her at an accelerated rate.[8] Although it couldn't be cured, eating a branch of a sacred tree from an elven forest, which possess great magical power, improved her condition.[9]

Development Abilities[]
Mage (魔導): Mage improved the power of Alfia's magic, widened effect range, and made mind usage efficient. It also created a colored magic circle under Alfia when she used magic. The ability granted her a magic stat equivalent to that of a Level 8.
Abnormal Resistance (耐異常): Abnormal Resistance negated the effect of abnormalities such as poison. Alfia had reached rank E, so she had an extremely high resistance to adverse effects; just at rank G almost nothing can affect one, even the strongest poisons in high doses.
Magic Resistance (魔防)
Spirit Pleasure (精愉)
Supreme Light (覇光)
Equipment[]
Anti Magic Dress: Alfia wore a dress with magic resistant properties. Though capable of weakening external attacks, its main purpose was actually to reduce the power of Alfia's own magic, similar to her magic Silentium Eden.
Trivia[]
- Alfia was significantly younger than the rest of the Hera Familia executives.[1]
- Oomori stated that with her Charm Freya would had been able to neutralize all of Evilus' forces except for Alfia and Zald.[10] Whether this would have been due to an immunity to her Charm or another factor is unknown.
- Alfia is the only other character in the series outside of Bell to be capable of going beyond the limit of a Basic Ability, by reaching SS1001 in her Magic.
- The author said that she would have managed to live longer if she had decided to go with Bell thanks to "mother power", and would have become a "final boss" for his suitresses.[11]
- Although the concept of Bell's birth scenario was established from the beginning, Alfia was not part of the initial concept.[12]
- "Silentium" means "silence" in latin while "eden" is a word to refer to a place where one is happy.
- The chant of her magic, Ataraxia, is the name of a state of mind characterized by an imperturbable tranquility and the absence of disturbances.
