Cormac (コーマック) is a character in DanMachi ~Memoria Freese~. He was the king of the Cormac Kingdom.
Appearance[]
Personality[]
As a king, Cormac gave off the impression of a strong and wise ruler, but he was selfish, vain, and cowardly in reality. When his kingdom almost collapsed due to his own mistake, he used the Sword of Oath to order his most loyal knight, McCool, to take the blame instead. After he learned that he would be killed by a red-eyed Pallum under a full moon, he became extremely fearful of Fianna and attempted to kill her by sending her to dangerous missions multiple times. His vanity was shown when he made an alliance with Lakrios to stop the monster threat as a way to stroke his ego.
History[]
Originally the Kingdom of Cormac was just five small countries. When Cormac obtained the Sword of Oath, he used its power to unite the five countries into one kingdom under his rule. When he unified Ulstar, he became infatuated by their royal hair Grainne when she was still a baby. Wanting her to be his bride, he used the sword to bestow a Geas on her, making a prophecy that she would bring chaos to his kingdom. Refusing to take it seriously, he had Grainne taken to the royal forest of Hanash to be raised in isolation till she came of age.
This mistake of his would almost cause his kingdom's collapse. Instead of taking responsibility for his mistakes, he uses the sword to force McCool to take the blame and be killed by Goll.
After McCool's death he used the sword to place a Geas on Fianna in secret. This time it prophesied his death at the hands of a red-eyed Pallum under a full moon. Turning extremely fearful of her because of it, Cormac attempted to kill her by sending her to dangerous missions multiple times.
Abilities[]
Equipment[]
Sword of Oath: The Sword of Oath was an artifact that allowed Cormac to bind others to his control through a Geas. As an artifact, its power was far greater than that of Spirits. However, unlike the latter that required a contract, it required a price that needed to be paid constantly. In its case, every time the sword was used, a prophecy of misfortune was made.
Trivia[]
- Cormac is based on a High King of Ireland to whom Fionn mac Cumhaill was supposedly contemporary.
