Wiene (竜の少女(ウィーネ)) is the first episode of the third season of the DanMachi anime.

Synopsis[]

Monsters are evil abominations driven by murderous instinct. But if that were true, why is this one a scared little girl who doesn't understand why she's being hunted?

Plot[]

A dragon girl is chased naked through the woods by Gran and his cohorts. She trips in her panic, and soon notices a swirling flame which is revealed to have come from Bell Cranel. He is shocked to see that the monster can cry before a fiery bird appears, which he soon fells. Gran and company catch up with them, asking Bell and the girl, who is now wrapped in Bell's red cloak to disguise herself, if a Vouivre had been seen nearby. Bell dodges the question and asks for a potion to heal the girl's burns, though Gran and his cohorts just pass by them. Bell's group soon catches up to them and scolds him for his dangerous move of going off by himself on the 19th Floor. The group being confused who the person is, Bell states that he will explain when they get to the 18th Floor. Later, the dragon girl accidentally trips again which causes her hood to fly backwards, revealing her face. Bell's party flips out about Bell having brought along a monster, to which they all ready their weapons to kill her, but Bell stands in front of her to protect her. She then speaks, which further freaks out the party. Bell then explains what happened and convinces them to let her live and help him take her to the surface to Hestia.

Ouranos learns of these developments as Bell and co. make it to the surface. Hestia agrees to let the girl stay for now and asks what her name is. She doesn't have a name and so Hestia puts it on Bell to name her. They eventually decide on the name Wiene. Hestia then orders them to find out if there are others just like her and to figure out if anything weird is going on in the Dungeon. Lili goes into a tavern in search for answers. Lulune the mud hound plants themselves in a seat next to Lili and mentions that they know a thing or two, but not to get their hopes up, prompting Lili to pay their tab for the information. Lulune tells her that the word on the street is that there are disembodied voices that bounce off the dungeon walls, some talking all at once, and some singing, even when there are no adventurers. Afterwards, Lili leaves the tavern, but realizes she is being tailed by Lulune. While Haruhime and Bell help Wiene learn to act practically, Wiene accidentally plays rough and slices Bell's arm with her claws, leading Wiene to begin crying because of what she did, though Bell soon reassures her that it's alright. While hugging Wiene, he notices a white owl with two different colored eyes.

Later on, after some bonding moments, Lili continues to show her disdain and mistrust of Wiene, telling Welf that she believes that the gods have been withholding information about the dungeon from them, and that getting mixed up with the dragon girl that they have placed themselves in a volatile situation. In bed, Wiene tells Bell of her lonely dreams of being a dragon and killing people before being killed by people just like him.

Meanwhile, Hermes finds smugglers of other human-like monsters.
