Dim (ディム) is a character in DanMachi ~Memoria Freese~. Originally just the page of the Fianna Knights, he later became their second leader after the downfall of the first group and changed his name, becoming known as Finn (フィン). Afterwards, he formed part of the first group to ever reach the dungeon and went on to be known as a legendary hero after his death. He is Finn Deimne's past life.
Appearance[]
Dim was a short man with blue eyes and blond hair that he usually wore in a ponytail. His shirt was made up of multiple black ribbons joined together, with two crossing diagonally across the center of his chest, forming an X. The garment was asymmetrical, while it featured a long left sleeve that completely covered his arm, it had no right sleeve. Instead, Dim wore a set of ribbons tied to his forearm. Both his sleeve and ribbons covered the backs and palms of both hands. In addition to that, he wore brown ribbons around his wrists tied with red laces.
Dim also had white bands coiled under his shirt and a few on top of him, around his stomach. Over his shirt he wore an equally asymmetrical short red vest; like his shirt, it did not have a right sleeve either, in addition to the fact that on that side it only covered the chest area, while the left part had a sleeve that covered half the arm and reached the abdominal area.
The lapels of the vest, as well as its sleeve, had gold trims and slits at their ends. Dim used to wear the part that reached his abdomen wrapped in his white bands. Above the bands he wore a brown strap with a yellow buckle and three thin ribbons tied to it. He also had a black ribbon around his neck and a necklace with a golden hook, which had an oval green stone attached to it. He had an orange belt that went around his waist diagonally and looped twice, ending the second with both ends down, so that it formed a downward triangle with a gold buckle at the end.
His pants were baggy and the legs were horizontally bisected in the middle by a gray line, with the top being light brown and the bottom olive green. At the bottom they were tied by brown ribbons. The brown ribbon on the right leg was partially covered by more black ribbons, while the one on the left had a single yellow lace in the center.
Dim wore long black shoes with a slit in the front. As decoration, they had a golden line with a rhombus of the same color at the top and a brown ribbon in the middle, which had crossed through the center a red rope with two white tassel pendants on the sides.
He later on donned blue clothes as well as a new white armor with a visor which covered most of his face, just like Fianna.
Personality[]
Dim was determined to become a knight. Although his companions treated him only as a chore boy, he overcame it through his characteristic foolish honesty and simplicity. He never give up even when he constantly failed the entry trail to become a knight in the Fianna Knights.
After the death of the first generation Fianna Knights, Dim change his name to Finn and his personality took a dark turn. He became a cunning and ruthless tactician willing to do almost anything to get revenge on everyone involved in the death of Fianna Knights.
After successfully exacting his revenge, he became depressed and lost all will to live, until his friends restored his will to fight.
History[]
Sometime before he was executed McCool had Dim with another Pallum woman. After the execution Dim was sold into slavery. On his way to be sold, the slavers were attacked by monsters, leaving him as the sole survivor. He was saved by Fianna and taken into a Pallum's hidden village located in the Forest of Elan.
In the hidden village, Dim met the Fianna Knights. Over time he decided to join them and took the entry trial many times, only to fail on each occasion. Unbeknownst to him, Fianna rigged the trial to make it harder than it should be in order to prevent him from becoming a knight, as a measure to protect him.
Abilities[]
Enhanced Speed: As the Fianna Knights page, Dim was always running after them as he was not allowed to have a horse, which made him faster on his feet.
Spirit: After the Fianna Knights were betrayed by Cormac, Dim made a contract with Finegas, a Spirit of Goibniu. He was required to take care of Finegas, who took on the appearance of a horse, in exchange for Finegas' power and concealment of his blood-red eyes.
Bloodfury Spear: A power that lied within Dim's soul which he awakened through his anger. After Fianna's death he also inherited her Bloodfury Spear through a contract with Finegas. It transformed Dim into a tremendously powerful warrior with a might comparable to a Level 5 or 6; the power granted by the ability depended on his level of anger and how much of it was restrained by his visor.
However, Finegas noted that absorbing Fianna's own was an irreversible process and that the rage from the ability would stick to him even after his reincarnation, granting him a fate which would lead Dim down a torturous path through the ages.
Strategist: Even after inheriting Fianna's Bloodfury Spear, Dim never achieved the same level of combat skill she had, and focused on strategy instead.
Horse Riding: Dim was able to ride a horse.
Spearmanship: Dim was trained on how to wield a spear by Finegas as part of their contract.
Equipment[]
Page's Dagger: When Dim was still a page, he was given a dagger to use for combat as part of the entry trial.
Fierce Spear: The Fierce Spear was a gift Dim received from Finegas. Its shaft is made out of Oathtree wood and the spearhead from Valorian. Both can be found in the Elan Forest. It symbolizes Finegas and the first generation of Fianna Knights.
