Information

Epimetheus (エピメテウス) is a legendary hero from Olympia and a character in DanMachi ~Memoria Freese~.

In the Aedes Vesta event, he acted under the name Ethon (エトン), a supposed descendent of his and the divine chairman of the Order of Prometheus, to hide his true identity.

Appearance[]

Epimetheus was a tall, muscular, tan-skinned man with amber eyes and long, shoulder-length blue hair. He usually wore it tied up in a ponytail with a gold-edged black ribbon. He wore a black shirt with a gray design on the chest area and openings that exposed his stomach and the sides of his abdomen with gold edges and small gold pieces in the center.

Epimetheus wore black pants and black greaves with golden traces as well as sandals of the same color; both pairs also had gold pieces. He wore a wide red ribbon at his waist, over which he had a gray ribbon with an orange strap on top of it, and a circular orange piece with a small inner circle, four perpendicular points, and gold edges. In addition to it he had two other pieces of cloth hanging from the red ribbon.

The first was a second piece of red cloth with a large gold spike at its end located at the center of her waist. The second was a simple piece of beige cloth with a purple interior on its right side. The third was a long piece of clothing with orange and purple stripes interspersed. The piece itself, as well as each stripe, had thin gold edges. On his left forearm and hand Epimetheus wore a series of gray bandages along with two orange strips of cloth with gold rings on top of them. On the other hand, on his right hand he only had a few black bandages and a golden vambrace on his right forearm.

Apart from the multiple gold decorations on his clothing, Epimetheus also wore a pair of golden shoulder pads. Two white strips hung from his left, one of which ran backwards while the other extended in front, hanging freely until it reached the height of his knees and had a pointed golden piece at its end. The right had a single piece of white cloth that trailed back. He also wore a long piece of beige cloth that went over his right shoulder and was tucked in around his waist. In addition to that, Epimetheus wore a long black cloak whose hem reached down to his feet.

Personality[]

Aedes Vesta[]

A once kind hero turned bitter towards the world that called him a fool for failing to slay the Black Monsters. Over the years of being mocked his hatred festered and grew to spite both towards the people he once worked to save. It was intense enough he was willing to let the world burn to use the corrupted fire to slay the Black Dragon, the last of the Three Great Quest that Zeus and Hera Familias failed to slay and by doing so would become the last hero, a hero that doomed the world instead of saving it.

Knights of Fianna[]

By the time of the battle to reach the dungeon Epimetheus seems to be depressed but still believe in his ideals as a hero.

History[]

Epimetheus lived long before the Fianna Knights and Argonaut. He was the first wielder of the Primordial Flame, after which he became a great hero who dedicated himself to protecting the land of Olympia. However, he didn't just stay in Olympia, going on expeditions in which he saved various people and countries.

The world was in chaos; attacks by monsters, plagues spreading, and people committing crimes against each other. Rising in such a time of disaster Epimetheus appeared and gave people hope, however he ultimately failed. Losing multiple men on his expeditions and being unable to finish off any of the Three Great Quests (or Antares in the non canon continuity), but always coming back alive, he was a hero who achieved nothing. The whole world was disappointed and hated him, people disowned him and called him various names with disdain, marking the end of his story.

At some point a blind poet who was one the three great poets, along with a Half Elf, visited him. The man came to make him a proposal with two known outcomes. In the non canon one, featured in the Aedes Vesta event, Epimetheus refused to listen to the blind poet, sent him away and never saw him again. In the canon one, featured in Knights of Fianna, Epimetheus listened to him and agreed to assist humanity's first attempt to reach the dungeon.

Abilities[]

Immense Strength: Despite not being blessed with the power of falna, Epimetheus has shown incredible strength, being able to trade blows and even occasionally surpass Bell's attacks, while the latter was constantly having his power increased from Hestia's Aedes Vesta. Only the people who were protected by Aedes Vesta were able to withstand his blows, as even high experienced Level 4 adventurers such as Ryuu, Hyakinthos, and Aisha quickly fell to him.

Skilled Fighter: As a hero who has existed since 3,000 years ago, Epimetheus is a highly skilled warrior, as he was able to conquer through many battlefields in his time, and has thousands of years of experience over the average warrior, as he claims. Even without relying on the flames, he was capable enough to easily defeat Hyakinthos with his sword skills.

Flame of Heaven (天の炎): As a wielder of the Flame of Heaven, Epimetheus gained many abilities, such as increased physical abilities, the power to use the divine weapon Ethon, and even became immortal as a result of the power. When the Flame became corrupted, he adapted to it, and was able to draw out more of the flame's powers than the other members of the Order.

Magic[]

Kavkaz (炎誅の山(カフカス)): Fire magic. Its power was strong enough to instantly blow away Aphrodite Familia members and Bell in one blow, while Epimetheus had held back much of it's power to avoid killing Bell. In a later confrontation, it was also shown to be capable of instantly defeating all of his opponents, except for the Hestia Familia who were protected by Aedes Vesta, though they quickly fell as well. It was also able to match to the power of Bell's Firebolt, even after receiving the power of Aedes Vesta.

Gaf Deucalion (世滅の洪炎(ガフ・デュカリオン)): Fire magic. The attack was strong enough to completely destroy an island with its flames.

Elgus Pandora (エルグス・パンドラ): Epimetheus' strongest attack, as stated by Prometheus, where he releases the full power of his divine weapon. Despite the claimed power of the attack, it was defeated by Bell's Grand Bell Argonaut.

Equipment[]

Ethon (炎鷲の嘴(エトン)): A divine weapon, an artifact, Epimetheus used in combat and to control the Primordial Flame of Heaven. Epimetheus used its name as his alias while hiding his real identity.
