Familia Chronicle (ファミリアクロニクル) is a Japanese light novel and manga series written by Oomori Fujino. Oomori stated that he wanted to use the series as an opportunity to focus on various characters and delve deeper into their pasts than what was shown in DanMachi and Sword Oratoria. Because of this, the idea was for the spotlight to rotate between different characters, although it was not ruled out that some would have multiple volumes dedicated to them.
The series originated with Episode Ryuu, which was formerly titled Grand Casino wo Buttsubuse, but later changed to its current title to accommodate other characters. On August 30, 2019, it was announced that the next volume would be Episode Freya. Although Oomori intended for the following one to be about Haruhime, on August 22, 2023 it was announced that the third installment would be Episode Ryuu 2.
Oomori assured readers that the next volume would be about Haruhime and revealed that it will take place during the ten-day period between the seventh interlude and the epilogue of volume 15 of DanMachi.[1] However, on May 22, 2025 it was announced that the next installment will be Episode Asfi. This volume will be co-written with Nishijima Fumikaru, as a way to accommodate the triple simultaneous release alongside volume 21 of DanMachi and volume 16 of Sword Oratoria.[2]
Oomori apologized and clarified that, due to this decision, and his desire to write Episode Haruhime all by himself,[3] he opted to postpone it once again and go with Episode Asfi, which was supposed to follow it.[4] He also revealed the volume will serve as the "hook" for what he calls the Great Far East War.[3]
Among his future plans for the franchise, Oomori mentioned the possibility of writing a story about the Zeus and Hera Familias, referring to it as Episode Zeus (episodeゼウス), although he soon corrected himself, saying that it might be named after Meteria.[5]
Episode Ryuu was originally a short story published in Gangan GA and later, along with the name change, received a novelization that included a second chapter written specifically for the light novel release. Oomori expressed interest in repeating this with subsequent stories, commenting that he planned to publish them as short stories in Gangan GA before releasing them as light novels. This was partially fulfilled with Episode Freya, whose first chapter was indeed published in Gangan GA, but with its publication beginning after the light novel's release. Episode Ryuu 2, on the other hand, was only released as a light novel.
Since the first volume of the light novel, Nilitsu has served as the series' illustrator, while the manga adaptations of Episode Ryuu and Episode Freya have both been drawn by Momoyama Hinase.
