Sanjouno Haruhime (サンジョウノ・春姫) is a member of the Hestia Familia and a former member of the Ishtar Familia.
Appearance[]
Haruhime is described to be a beautiful girl. She has long blonde hair, green eyes, and fox ears and a tail. She used to wear a red kimono, but started wearing a maid outfit after she joined the Hestia Familia. However, she still wears a kimono when going to the dungeon.
Personality[]
Haruhime is a gentle, timid, well-mannered, and extremely kind girl. She is respectful of everyone she meets and is eager to help when given the chance. Having grown up mostly isolated and later kept hidden by the Ishtar Familia, Haruhime has experienced quite a sheltered life. And as such, even minor things will excite her.
Haruhime developed a love of reading at a young age, as it was her way of escaping her loneliness. She has a fondness for fairy tales, particularly ones where the hero saves a damsel in distress. When she was made to work as a prostitute, she wished that a hero would come and save her, like in those stories. As time went on, however, she convinced herself that she wouldn't be saved, since she believed that her profession made her unworthy of rescue. However, Haruhime's view on this changed after Bell saved her, regardless of her beliefs.
Though she has never had to fend for herself, Haruhime displays an unusual sense of bravery when those she cares for are threatened. When Wiene was in danger, Haruhime leaped off a building in pursuit of her and stood up to Bete in order to give Bell enough time to escort Wiene to safety.
While working as a prostitute, Haruhime would foam at the mouth and collapse whenever she saw a naked man. Due to this, she is still a virgin, but is unaware of the fact.
History[]
Haruhime grew up as a dignified young lady of a noble family in the Far East. Living in solitude, her home was like a cage, and she had no friends. At some point, children of the Takemikazuchi Familia, with the approval of their God, started taking her outside at night to play with them.
Sometime later, someone framed her for eating an offering, which angered her father so much that he disowned her and a Pallum guest offered to take her away. As they were traveling, they were attacked by monsters and the Pallum ran away, leaving Haruhime behind. She survived, but was later captured by bandits and sold to a brothel in Orario. While heading there, she caught the eye of Ishtar, who bought her. Haruhime became a member of the Ishtar Familia, where she was forced to work as a prostitute, until the Familia disbanded.
Abilities[]
Great Physical Prowess: As a Level 2, Haruhime's physical abilities are all significantly superior to those of a normal person. In terms of raw physical prowess, her abilities are also exponentially superior to those of any Level 1.
Enhanced Senses: As a Human Beast, Haruhime had very keen senses far better than those of most normal people. After acquiring her falna her senses sharpened even further. They improved even more after she ranked up.
Magic[]
Uchide no Kozuchi (ウチデノコヅチ): Uchide no Kozuchi is a level-boosting magic that grants its target abilities one level above their real status. Furthermore, rather than make them as strong as someone who just ranked up, the level boost puts each of their abilities in the same tier of the next level equivalent to the one they each are at in their current level; Phryne, a high Level 5, noted that with Uchide no Kozuchi she had a higher status than a low Level 6 Ais.
Haruhime can cast it on anyone, excluding herself, but can only use it on a single target, after which a certain amount of time must pass before she can use it again. Once cast, the magic will not dissipate no matter what until its duration runs out or Haruhime decides to undo it, regardless of whether she becomes unconscious or much worse.
When she was Level 1, the effect could last for around 15 minutes if Haruhime put a lot of mind into it, after which it required an interval of around 10 minutes before it could be used again. By the time of the War Game against the Freya Familia, following her ascension to Level 2, Haruhime was shown to have increased the duration of Uchide no Kozuchi to 20 minutes and shortened its interval between uses to 9 minutes.
Despite its great benefits, those affected by Uchide no Kozuchi gain less than half the experience a normal adventurer would gain. Moreover, the massive increase in their abilities causes the target to experience difficulty using their enhanced abilities effectively, unable to make full use of them as their mind and body are out of sync, especially if it is their first time under its effects. Due to the extraordinary power of said magic, it was kept a secret to prevent others from going after Haruhime, but its existence was revealed to the general public when she used it in the Great Faction War.
In the anime, as a Level 1, a magic circle was present when Haruhime casted it even though she didn't have the Mage development ability yet.
Kokonoe (ココノエ): Kokonoe is Haruhime's second magic that she learned from the grimoire Aisha stole from her own Familia. It is a special enchant magic that creates a maximum of nine tails on Haruhime. By chant connecting Uchide no Kozuchi with it, she is able to add the former's effects to each of the tails she creates, enabling her to cast it on multiple people at once. However, the interval requirement of Uchide no Kozuchi still applies as well.
Previously, as she was chanting for two separate magic, creating five tails exhausted her entire mind, causing her to faint. However, Haruhime could hold back a tail to prevent this, giving her time to recover some mind, and still being able to cast said tail after that period. By the time of the War Game against the Freya Familia, Haruhime was shown to have increased the maximum number of tails to six.

Development Abilities[]
Mage (魔導): Mage improves the power of Haruhime's magic, widens effect range, and makes mind usage efficient. It also creates a colored magic circle under Haruhime when she uses magic. The ability grants her a magic stat equivalent to that of a Level 3.

Oubu (桜舞): A magical fan.
Suiran (翠嵐): A magic sword.
Goliath Robe (ゴライアスのローブ): The Goliath Robe is a cloak made from the hide of the Black Goliath which the Hestia Familia defeated on the 18th Floor. It can block physical and magical attacks, but it cannot block shockwaves. Haruhime wears it over her dungeon clothes.
Undine Cloth (ウンディーネ・クロス): A blue cloth imbued with the power of an Undine, giving increased protection against water-based attacks and helps the wielder underwater. Haruhime would wear a shrine maiden style outfit with its lower part made of Undine Cloth instead of her usual dungeon clothes on some occasions.
Trivia[]
- Haruhime's actual family name is Sanjou (三条) and the "-no" is added in her full name. Sanjouno Haruhime originally means "Haruhime of the Sanjou (house)".
- Oomori stated that Haruhime's birthday is in spring, like Bell, Ryuu, and Nina.[1] This makes the four of them the only characters about whom details of their birthdays have been given.
- After the events of volume 14, Haruhime was able to rank up to Level 2, though she didn't know it and was held back from doing so because Aisha warned Hestia Familia about it, telling them that it was too soon for her.
- The author admitted that Haruhime was introduced as a convenience to the novel since the One Eyed Black Dragon is too powerful and the current generation would be unable to match and defeat it.[2]
- Haruhime's magic, Uchide no Kozuchi, is based on the legendary Japanese magic hammer of fortune.
