Letters from the Xenos (異端児からの手紙) is a special story included in the DanMachi III BD booklets.
Summary[]
Over a month after Hestia’s familia had successfully aided the Xenos return to the dungeon, Wiene was feeling sad one day and said she wanted to meet Bell and the others again. Lido and some of the other Xenos teased her and said that they thought she was going to cry anymore about not being able to meet them. Wiene told them that she wasn’t crying, but she was sad that she couldn’t see Bell and the rest of Hestia familia. So she asked the other Xenos if it possible that they could meet possibly meet them again soon. They told her that their previous presence on the surface caused Bell to get too much attention and that it still was too dangerous for now, because of the possibility that he might be seen by other adventures entering one of their hideouts.
Feeling sorry for Wiene and wanting to help, Fia suggested that Wiene write a letter to them. The Xenos then discussed how they could possibly get the letter to Bell and the others, and decided to contact Fels over their oculus and asked him to come to the hideout that they were currently staying at near the 20th floor of the dungeon.
When Fels arrived the Xenos told Fels that they wanted his help delivering a letter to Bell. Wiene however didn’t completely understand what a letter actually was, and asked Fels what was the point in sending Bell and the others a letter when she couldn’t see them or hug them again.
Fels contemplated her question and asked her, in return, if she could know what Bell and Hestia’s familia was doing currently, how would she feel. Wiene said it would make her happy and make her feel relieved if she knew that they were doing well. Fels told her that was the point of writing a letter. That even if she couldn’t see them she could tell them what she was doing now. It would make them happy to know that she was doing well and in return they would write back to her and let her know what they were doing currently, as well.
After hearing Fels' explanation, Wiene got excited and decided to write a letter to Bell and Hestia’s familia. Fels then started teaching Wiene how to read and write so that she could write her letter.
Watching them, the other Xenos started to get really interested and Lido asked Fels if he could teach him as well, which caused several of the other Xenos to ask Fels to teach them as well. Fels was surprised and asked Lido why he was suddenly interested in learning, because he offered to teach Lido how to read and write over 10 years ago, but Lido refused and said he didn’t need to learn as long he had an oculus. After Fels asked Lido why he suddenly was interested in learning, he could tell from Lido’s response that Lido meeting Bell played a large role in awakening Lido and many other of the Xenos’ interest to learn. Let and Fia told Fels that they knew how to read and write and offered Fels their help in teaching the others.
Some time after the Xenos started to learn how to read and write Wiene completed her letter. In which she told Bell how Fels taught her how to write, and ended the letter by saying that she isn’t crying anymore but she still feels sad sometimes, so she told him that she is going to send lots of letters and asked him to write back and tell her how he and the others are as well.
In another letter that Wiene wrote to Bell, she wrote about how she had a new friend named Carl. She told him that her new friend also had a crystal on her forehead like her's. Wiene also told Bell that her friend has been alone much longer than her before she ended up joining up with the Xenos, but she was also saved by an adventurer before joining them just like Bell saved her. Carl told Wiene that the adventurer that saved her had long ears and wore green clothes. Carl would often talk about the adventurer that saved her, and when she did Fia would always say things like ‘it was love’. Wiene ended the letter by telling Bell not to tell anyone else, but asked him what ‘yuri’ was and said that no one would tell her.
Ryu was in the dungeon looking for clues about Evilus after having found the magical item that was in the shape of an eye with a “D” engraved into it. Ever since she found the magic item, after the waitresses at the Hostess of Fertility would go to sleep, Ryu would often sneak into the dungeon and search the 18th floor after her previous encounter with Evilus after saving Bell and Lefiya from the man-eating plant. She thought about asking Asfi for help, but didn’t want to get anyone involved in the case if she actually did re-encounter members of Evilus again, so she kept the information to herself.
She decided to re-search the area that she first found it in and walked over to a stone wall nearby when the magic item started to become very warm inside of her pocket as she approached the wall. She used Luminous Wind on the stone wall, which destroyed the natural terrain and revealed a gate.
She put the eye against it and entered the man-made dungeon being very cautious of a possible incoming ambush from members of Evilus. After having proceeded through the man-made dungeon for some time she noticed a man with white hair. The man’s eye also had a “D” engraved on it like the magic item that Ryu used to enter the man-made dungeon. He noticed Ryu and mentioned how there was only one intruder and the Vargas should be more than enough to handle her. He then told her to die as he opened several large cages with his eye and then fled from the room.
Ryu then was suddenly attacked by a large swarm of water spider monsters that could shoot poison out of their bodies. Ryu thought it slightly resembled the man-eating flowers, but their numbers were too vast for her to properly confirm any connection between them.
She tried to run away, when she suddenly heard a cute sounding squeaky voice, when suddenly a small monster jumped towards her. She caught the monster, which had several injuries all over its body. It had previously been running away as if it was trying to escape from the other monsters. The monster was a carbuncle, which had an emerald colored mane and a large crystal on its forehead. Much like unicorns, carbuncles were an extremely rare monster in the dungeon and its crystal was a drop item which was extremely valuable.
Ryu thought about killing the carbuncle for its crystal, but she suddenly was attacked by the swarm of vargas. When she was attacked, she threw the carbuncle to the side in order to free her hands in order to fight, but the carbuncle misinterpreted her actions as Ryu trying to save her. The vargas started to try to attack Ryu with poison which dripped down like rain from the monsters’ bodies as they climbed on the ceiling and walls above her. Seeing this, the carbuncle ran to her and activated a magic barrier, which deflected all of the poison saving her.
Ryu thought that the carbuncle’s actions were odd, but brushed it off as some form of its own self-preservation. Ryu then used her magic to kill the monsters while being protected within the carbuncle’s magic barrier.
After clearing out all the surrounding monsters in her path Ryu started to run towards the exit. Although she noticed that a man with the white hair sealed several doors appeared along her route that were not previously there, attempting to trap her inside of the man-made dungeon with the monsters.
However, with the key and the carbuncle’s protection, which started following her wherever she went, Ryu successfully managed to escape the man-made dungeon back into the 18th floor.
The carbuncle happily danced around her feet and Ryu thought that she couldn’t kill it anymore after how it saved her life. It licked her shoes in thanks for saving it before running off somewhere, and Ryu thought that it was too dangerous to try to enter the man-made dungeon again.
The whole event occurred 10 days before the Xenos caused the disturbance on the surface, which was also the day Bell first met Wiene.
