Information |
The Spirit Soldiers (精霊兵) were a group of individuals who belonged to the Apate Familia.
Appearance[]
The Spirit Soldiers were a group of big men who perfectly personified the word "tough." Although several of them were tan-skinned, each one's equipment and race varied.
Their only points in common were that their eyes were wide open, foam and saliva dripped profusely from their mouths, and they had restraint devices that had been forcibly placed on them and extended from their mouths to the back of their heads. When observed, their condition made it clear that sanity was a quality that none of them possessed.
Stabbed deep into their medulla oblongata were daggers that were the Spirits they had been infused with.
Personality[]
The Spirit Soldiers were originally a group of adventurers who resented the Zeus and Hera Familias. Their desire for revenge was so intense that it led them to abandon their God and turn to a criminal organization to strengthen themselves and thus fulfill their yearning. Their revenge proved to be their only motivation to continue, since after the disappearance of both familias they found themselves without purpose.
After their transformation into Spirit Soldiers, they all lost any trace of humanity. They lacked any shred of will or intelligence. They moved only in response to commands from whoever possessed the scepter used to control them, and remained still if none were present. Having lost their sanity and rationality, it was difficult to restrain them to update their statuses and they only produced incoherent sounds and beast-like roars.
However, it seemed that they still retained a sense of self-preservation as they responded and reacted to threats. Faced with a great magical bombardment, a few of them instinctively moved to avoid the projectiles, one tried to flee when he understood that he would be killed if he stayed still, and two were paralyzed with surprise when they saw one of their own being easily killed instead of mindlessly continuing to attack.
History[]
After the defeat of the Osiris Familia by the Zeus and Hera Familias, their second-class adventurers decided to take revenge against these factions. Abandoning their exiled God, they contacted and converted to the Apate Familia, training and becoming stronger in preparation for their revenge.
However, after the fall, exile and dissolution of the Zeus and Hera Familias they ended up being unable to have their long-awaited revenge. However, the rest of the Apate Familia refused to leave them without any purpose, deciding to use them in an experiment. The faction tried a different strengthening method on them than the ones they usually used.
Capturing Spirits and then forcibly turning them into weapons, the followers of Apate infused the former dependents of Osiris in an attempt to imitate how the Spirits conferred their blessings to heroes of the Ancient Times. They also tried to replicate the Divine Protection of Spirits. Although they only had minor Spirits and were unable to use Great Spirits, the results were considered a success.
To ensure that the Guild would not discover them, they settled for just performing experimental combat in the dungeon until the beginning of the Great Feud, shortly after they had finally reached Level 5. However, there were problems during this period. Through repeated fusion experiments and dungeon expeditions to strengthen them, the initial total of forty-two Spirits and thirty-four warriors was reduced to only twelve Spirit Soldiers by then.
In the final battle of the Great Feud, one was killed by Hogni, another by Tsubaki, two by Mia, four by the Gulliver Brothers, and the last four by Finn.
Abilities[]
The Spirit Soldiers were a powerful force considered the ace up the sleeve of the Apate Familia and played a central role in Evilus' plans during the Great Feud. However, despite this, they were actually not as good as real first-class adventurers. Without someone to control them, they could not coordinate well and would remain motionless for a moment.
Furthermore, due to the unnatural nature of their creation, they required constant adjustments by mages and hexers each time they were deployed in combat, a process that took several days. Otherwise, the adventurers who served as their base bodies and the forcibly infused Spirits would experience rejection, causing mental collapse and physical deterioration. In the worst case, even the control exerted by Basram's shakujō would become ineffective.
Massive Physical Prowess: As Level 5s, the Spirit Soldiers' physical abilities were all extremely superior compared to those of a normal person. In terms of raw physical prowess, their abilities were also far superior to any Level 4's or below.
Massive Speed, Agility, and Reflexes: Despite being insane, some of the Spirit Soldiers survived the massive bombardment of thousands of lightning orbs from a Level 5 Hedin's Caelus Hildr thanks to their instinctive, beast-like movements.
Although all of them obeyed Basram's orders, each one's response speed varied. Of the four that the Gulliver brothers faced in the final battle of the Great Feud, the Human was the fastest and the Dwarf the slowest. For his part, the Elf proved to be fast enough to block a simultaneous attack from his left and right from some Level 4s Berling and Grer followed by an attack from a Level 4 Alfrigg, although he was finally hit by Dvalinn, who performed the following strike.
Spirit Infusion: Although incomparable to the heroes of the Ancient Times, the infusion granted the Spirit Soldiers an explosive increase in their magic stat and some of them also developed additional abilities.
- Accelerated Regeneration: Some of the Spirit Soldiers acquired an accelerated regeneration ability. Thanks to this, some of them were able to survive the massive bombardment of thousands of lightning orbs from the Caelus Hildr of a Level 5 Hedin. However, it still had its limitations, since the ability did not allow them to revive, making mortal wounds truly fatal. Of the four that the Gulliver brothers faced in the final battle of the Great Feud, only the Dwarf and Human Beast had it, while the Human and Elf lacked it.
- Chantless Magic: Some Spirit Soldiers became capable of casting magic without needing to recite a chant. However, their magical attacks hurt themselves as well. Of the four that the Gulliver brothers faced in the final battle of the Great Feud, the Human had fire element magic, and the Elf and the Dwarf had lightning element magic, while the Human Beast had no magic at all. Dvalinn and Grer further noted that Spirit Soldiers generally resorted to using magic when they were cornered.
Experienced Warriors: Despite having gone mad, the Spirit Soldiers apparently had some degree of skill in handling weapons. Of the four that the Gulliver brothers faced in the final battle of the Great Feud, Grer noted that the Elf's swordsmanship was the worst of all, and theorized that it was possibly due to having wielded another weapon prior to being turned into a Spirit Soldier.
Enhanced Senses: After acquiring their falnas, the Spirit Soldiers' senses became much sharper than those of a normal person. Their senses further improved with each subsequent level up.
Equipment[]
Weapons: Of the four Spirit Soldiers that the Gulliver brothers faced in the final battle of the Great Feud, the Elf wielded twin swords.
